A community in Harrison County, Shinnston, WV, was first settled by Levi Shinn in 1773. The community was originally chartered in 1852 as Shinn's Town, named for the Shinn family, pioneer settlers from New Jersey. The town was incorporated with its present name in 1877. It spans the West Fork River.
