Tug Creek Rapids

From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia

This Class II rapid in the upper New River Gorge, near Hinton, WV, is located upstream of Sandstone Falls and so is not typically challenged by rafters, though kayakers and canoe enthusiasts may run it. The rapids may largely be created by debris deposited by Tug Creek, at river-right, and by colluvium that has eroded from the canyon walls. Tug Creek rapids may be observed from WV-20 or Route 26 (River Road) north of Hinton, both of which parallel this upper segment of the New River.
