Upper Keeneys Rapids

From West Virginia (WV) Cyclopedia

Also known as Whale Rock Rapids, this Class III-IV rapids on the Lower New River whitewater rafting segment is the first of the three Keeneys Rapids, also sometimes known as Keeney Brothers Rapids. The rapids are formed by debris rock which has fallen off the surrounding canyon walls and tributary debris fanned out from the mouth of Keeneys Creek, on river right. Upper Keeneys Rapids are located approximately a tenth of a mile upstream of Middle Keeneys Rapids. The ruins of the ghost town of Keeneys Creek are located around the mouth of the creek on river-right.
