On the New River in southern Summers County, the former community of Warford was abandoned during the development of Bluestone Lake in 1949. The community stood at the mouth of Tom's Run at the upper reach of Crump's Bottom. During the Civil War, Union troops retreating northward under the command of General Samuel D. Cox were led to use the ford at the mouth of the run rather than a more substantial ford at the southern end of the bottom. As a result, horses and artillery were apparently lost in the crossing. The ford was since known as Warford and the community that developed there adopted the name.

Today the site of the community of Warford is inundated by the impounded waters of Bluestone Lake through much of the year. The Bull Falls Camping Area is located just downstream of the site.
