The count seat of Wayne County, Wayne, WV was originally founded in 1842 as Trout's Hill, honoring Abraham Trout, a first settler, owned of the land upon which the town was laid out. Incorporated as Wayne in 1882, and named in honor of General Anthony (Mad Anthony) Wayne, Revolutionary War hero.
