A community in Hancock County, Weirton, WV (map (http://www.wvamaps.com/index.php/?place=Weirton&state=wv&lat=40.4189&lon=-80.5897)) was incorporated from the town of Hollidays Cove, Weirton Heights and Marland Heights, as of July 1, 1947. The town's name honored the Weir family, then owners of the Weirton Steel Corporation (http://www.weirton.com/company/about/hist.html), founded in 1909 by Ernest Weir at Hollidays Cove. Hollidays Cove was the earliest permanent white settlement in Hancock County, named after John Holliday, who built a log cabin there in 1776.
