Winterplace Ski Resort, 20 m S of Beckley, WV, is the southernmost ski resort in West Virginia and one of its most popular ski areas, thanks to its location along Interstate 77. Winterplace provides 27 downhill ski trails, a 10-lane snow tubing park, a snowboarding park, restaurants, clubs, conference facilities, and slopeside homes.

Winterplace's ski season is generally shorter than that of other West Virginia resorts as a result of its more southerly location, but the ski area's elevation of Flat Top Mountain, at 3,500 feet above sea level, ensures snowfall there while more southerly resorts cannot yet produce snow.
