Gaming in all its forms is popular in West Virginia. Four casinos, or racinos, operate in West Virginia, and lottery outlets and video poker machines can be found in nearly every community.

The West Virginia Legislature recently permitted counties to allow table gaming. As a result, two full casinos have been established in the northern pandhandle and more are expected to open in other areas. The Greenbrier, the ever-elegant "America's Hotel," has been working to convince citizens of the benefits of table gaming in Greenbrier County.

More than 7,600 video-poker machines were operating in West Virginia in 2005 -- at 1,614 locations, according to the West Virginia Lottery Commission. Only Webster County, deep in the mountainous interior, was without a machine.
