Gaming in all its forms is popular in West Virginia. Two full casinos and two "racinos" operate in West Virginia and video poker machines can be found in nearly every community.

The West Virginia Legislature recently permitted counties to allow table gaming. As a result, two full casinos have been established in the northern pandhandle, and more are expected to open in other areas.

More than 7,600 video-poker machines were operating in West Virginia in 2009 (at 1,614 locations), according to the West Virginia Lottery Commission. Video-poker cafes have opened in many West Virginia cities. Only Webster County, deep in the mountainous interior, was without a machine in 2005.
