Gaming in all its forms is popular in West Virginia. Two full casinos and two "racinos" operate in West Virginia. The West Virginia Legislature recently permitted counties to allow table gaming. As a result, two full casinos have been established in the northern pandhandle, and more are expected to open in other areas.

Video-poker cafes can be found in nearly every West Virginia community. More than 7,600 were operating in the Mountain State in 2009 at 1,614 locations, according to the West Virginia Lottery Commission. Only Webster County, deep in the interior mountains, was without a machine in 2005.
