Gambling in all its forms is popular in West Virginia. Two full casinos and two "racinos" operate. The West Virginia Legislature recently permitted counties to allow table gambling. As a result, two casinos have been established at tracks in the northern panhandle, and more are expected to open in other areas. Video-poker cafes may be found in nearly every community. In 2005, more than 7,600 video machines were operating at 1,614 state-certified gambling locations, according to the West Virginia Lottery Commission.
