Cabin Creek Power Plant at Cabin Creek, WV

The Cabin Creek Power Plant was one of the early commercial power plants built in West Virginia. The plant was built in 1914 by Virginia Electric Power, that company later became known as Appalachian Electric Power. Numerous power plants had been built in the New River Coal Fields prior to 1914, however such plants supplied power for the mines and the mining towns. The first electrical plant employed for cutting and haulage of coal in West Virginia was constructed at Erskine in 1889 -- the second of its kind in the nation.
