1861 military reconnaissance of 1861, showing ferry crossing between Marrs Branch and Wolf Creek, just downstream of present-day Fayette Station, (incorrectly) marked as "Townsens Ferry" (should be:"Townsend's Ferry"). The crossing was named for John Townsend, who, in 1841, bought a large tract of land in the vicinity which is today the community of Lansing, Ames Heights, and Canyon Rim Park. Townsend operated a commercial crossing at this point until the Civil War (1861-1865).
